How To Elevate Your Afternoon

When the clock strikes three o'clock the afternoon slump starts to kick in. That time after lunch and that time when we leave for work in about two hours. The time where we quite literally can't stop looking at the clock every three minutes to see when it hit's five. The afternoon can be one of the most daunting times during the day. I mean they do call it witching hour for a reason.
However since the summer has started and the days have become so much nicer I've made more of a conscious effort to try to not dread the afternoon times because realistically what's their to dread when it's eighty degrees and sunny?
Most recently the craze and hype on social media has been the sharing of everyone's morning and night time routines. What they do in their routines, what they use, how they use it, etc. that makes their routines make them feel their absolute best selves. But have you heard of an "afternoon routine?"
An "afternoon routine" is a way elevate and glamourize your afternoon so your not dreading those 3 hours after lunch or before dinner. It's a way to look forward to the little things throughout your whole day to make the most out of summer and out of life. Not only does an afternoon routine give you excitement throughout your day but when incorporating certain things to it, it can help boost your productivity, your energy and your overall well being.
How you curate your routine is entirely up to you, your day, and what makes you feel good. I've added here some tips and suggestions that I have incorporated into my afternoon routine to help get me through those daunting "witching hours" while still making the most out of those sunny summer days.
Take A Break
My afternoon routine starts first and foremost up with stopping and shutting the computer. Take a damn break people!! Now I know depending on what our days and our job's look like it may not be as easy as it sounds to "take a break." This however doesn't need to be an hour long. Sometimes all you need is a twenty minute recharge to reset your brain and energy levels. This helps to boost your productivity so you can power through the rest of your busy day. This is also your reminder it's okay to take a break. You need it and you deserve it. Taking short breaks throughout your day allows you to manage your stress, focus more, enhances creative ideas, prevents burnout, and allows you to be more productive during times you are working. Give yourself that mental and emotional break to enjoy that work/life balance so you don't become burned out.
Refreshment
Now don't get too excited about this one, it's still not quite five o'clock just yet :( still however popping open a nice cold can of your favorite beverage of choice will be the bit of your afternoon routine to help keep you going. My personal afternoon drinks of choice that I have been obsessed with lately are OliPops and La Criox. I mean now to be honest I could for sure probably drink two of these a day but I tell myself "like reel it in Riley one a day is good, your good girl." I grab my super cutie amazon cup because what's any drink if it isn't in a cute cup right? Did you really even have any sort of drink if it's not in a cute cup or glass? Anyway it just adds to the whole vibe of your afternoon routine so make sure you get yourself a cute cup! Add some ice, pebble ice preferred, if you know you know, and pour that refreshing bev right into your adorably aesthetic cup. And there you go you've got yourself a super tasty and refreshing drink all in a cute cup to top off the start of your afternoon routine.
Snaxxxxs
Who doesn't love a reason to have a snack? Paired perfectly with your afternoon beverage a small snack makes these two the perfect combo. My personal afternoon snack favorites are apples with Granola butter, RX Bars, veggies or crackers paired with hummus, or a cup of pretzels. Now see there's nothing fancy or complicated about this because it doesn't need to be. Adding in afternoon snack to pair with your refreshment of choice or not your routine will help give you that extra boost of brain power to get you through the rest of your active days.
Walk
One of the most important things we can do for ourselves is move our body's. When were sitting at a desk, looking at our computers all day it can be hard to get creative, feel motivated and want to be productive. This is another reminder its okay to take a break. Shut your computer, walk outside, put on a good podcast and get some fresh air. A quick twenty minute walk around the block is the perfect amount of time to give yourself a break or to give yourself a boost of creative inspiration. Changing the scenery and environment your constantly in will expose you to new things that might help to give you that creative encouragement. Give your brain and body a break to refresh itself so you can go back to doing all the awesome things you do on a daily :)
